2025: A Big Year for My Wedding Venue Bucket List

I love Chicago and I love its architecture, and one of the best parts of being a photographer is getting to explore the incredible spaces this city has to offer. In 2025, I got to check off four amazing locations from my personal wedding venue bucket list.

The Rookery

As a Frank Lloyd Wright fan, this was a big one for me. The iconic Oriel Staircase is perfect for the first look and portraits. The Grand Staircase in the Lightcourt makes for stunning entrances and group photos. They offer photo permits, so even if you aren’t getting married in the building, you can still capture portraits here, check their website for permit information.

Bonus: right outside, you’re steps away from the Board of Trade, another iconic Chicago spot.

The Honeycomb

Officially, the Peoples Gas Pavilion, but Honeycomb is way cuter. Designed by Jeanne Gang, also the architect behind the St. Regis Chicago, the tallest building in the world designed by a woman, this space perfectly blends prairie plants and skyline views. I’ve photographed engagements, weddings, and portraits here many times, but 2025 was my first full ceremony. It pairs beautifully with Cafe Brauer, one of my favorite venues.

The Winter Garden at Harold Washington Library

Named after my favorite Chicago mayor, this sun-drenched space is a dream for winter weddings. Tall skylights, mint green accents, terrazzo, and marble floors make it elegant and flooded with natural light. It’s a stunning backdrop for both portraits and ceremonies. The catwalk couldn’t be more perfect for newlywed portraits.

Garfield Park Conservatory

Maybe you’re seeing a trend, I love prairie plants and prairie-style architecture. Designed by landscape architect Jens Jensen, the man responsible for so much of Chicago’s green space, the Garfield Park Conservatory lets your guests spend time among the plants. I’ve photographed here many times, but 2025 was my first full-size wedding. If you want to elope, that’s an option too. I used to volunteer here, so I know all the ins and outs.
